Let’s get to know YOU
Tell us a little bit about yourself (mini bio):
I’m a 21-year-old coffee chugging, floral loving college senior. I grew up in a very small town in the middle of nowhere (no joke) and am currently living in Charlotte, North Carolina for school. I’m a complete girly girl in the sense that I love all things pink, glittery and feminine, but am not afraid to hang out with one of the guys (as most of my friends are guys). I love peanut butter anything and Disney movies (Finding Nemo is my favorite!).
What do you do outside of blogging (think school or work):
Outside of blogging I’m busy finishing up my last year in college! Right now I’m getting my degree in Business Marketing and will be graduating in May.
What do you like to do on your down time?
Can I say eating? Haha. But really! I LOVE finding new restaurants and cafes around my area and trying new food. I have to say, one of the best thing about Charlotte is all of the amazing food options here; there are so many great places to try! I also enjoy crafting and painting. I typically do acrylic paintings, but I recently have been getting into watercolor painting and love it!
What’s the purpose of your blog?
To share outfit inspiration by posting my take on the latest fashion trends, lifestyle tips for the every day girl and what it’s like living in Charlotte!
What’s the best way for your audience to contact you?
Email! I’m so bad at checking my dms on Instagram and Twitter so emails are the best bet. I love hearing from my readers!
How would you describe your blogging style?
I would say my blog style is girly, classic, cheerful and colorful! I want my blog to be a reflection of me as well as some how bring a positive and happy vibes to my readers!
When did you start blogging?
I started blogging June 2014 but didn’t really start getting consistent and into blogging until a year later.
What inspired you to start blogging?
As cliché as it sounds, I always “had a passion for fashion.” For as long as I can remember I always loved dressing up and playing around with clothes. Most of the friends I surround myself with are typically guys and I never really had that one friend where I could go shopping with and just talk fashion with. With that, I started my blog where I could share my outfits, talk about fashion and style with like-minded people and my latest purchases! Around the same time I started my blog I was also in my second year of college and wanted some type of creative outlet. I used to dance growing up and since I stopped when college started, I needed something to do with my time.
What’s the biggest change in your life since you started blogging?
Photos kind of take over my life… ok, that’s a little dramatic, but kind of true! My laptop and camera roll are constantly overfilled with photos of food and myself that if anyone ever scrolled through they low key may think I’m a narcissist.
Before blogging I have always LOVED taking photos of anything and everything to look back for memories. Now you add in having to take photos for blog posts, Instagrams, and other social media posts you can only imagine the over abundance of pictures I have accumulated.
Also, I never would have thought how much thought and time it takes going into photos. I have to give some of these bloggers some props for making their snapshots look like they just took one photo and go on with their day (which we all know is totally NOT the case).
- Short term: Create a wider variety of content for my readers!
- Long term: Make a somewhat steady side (or full time ideally!) income from blogging. I mean, who wouldn’t want some extra cash on the side from doing what they love?
If you could start blogging all over again, what would you do differently?
Oh goodness I could go on about what I would do differently like have an attractive blog layout to begin with, spend more time on choosing a blog name, create social media accounts right when you begin… etc.
The major thing I would do differently would probably learn how to take decent outfit photos before posting it on the Internet. My boyfriend takes all of my blog photos (he’s the bomb dot com) and it’s been such a learning experience for the both of us on how to take attractive looking photos. Photos are HUGE especially for style posts and looking back at my earlier blog posts I just want to know what in the world I was thinking at that time…
As much as I would love to go back and change it all, I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason. All the embarrassing outfit posts, terrible blog layouts, and everything in between all lead me to learn how to improve!
What’s your favourite social media platform and why?
I love Instagram! I spend an embarrassingly amount of time scrolling through Instagram getting inspiration ranging from outfit pairings to home décor to how to take new Instagram photos. Especially since Instagram created their “stories” feature, it has to be my most used social media platform.
Most of your traffic comes from which social media platform?
Most of my traffic comes from Facebook or Twitter!
What’s your favourite blogging group on Facebook?
I LOVE Millennial Blogger Network. I found out about it through my blogger friend Annalise of Southern Belle In Training (http://www.southernbelleintraining.com/ ) who is also an admin of the group. MBN is a great group to meet new people, get some engagement on your social media posts / blog posts and ask for blogging advice.
What’s your greatest win so far with blogging?
Honestly? Connecting with fellow bloggers! Never would I have thought I would meet such great like-minded people through the Internet of all places! I have made some wonderful friends through blogging and it still blows my mind how blogging has brought us together. I had mention before that I never really had many girl friends I can talk fashion and style with, but through blogging I have been able to meet say many incredible ladies from all over the world!
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve so far with blogging?
Don’t expect everything to go the way as planned! I can’t tell you how many times I have planned an outfit shoot and it’s just too cold or Mother Nature decided it would be ok to have a tsunami whip through in the middle of a shoot.
This was kind of a hard one for me to accept and learn because I’m the type that likes to plan every little thing out and if something doesn’t go as planned it stresses me out. This can apply to just about everything in life. You just have to adapt the change and just roll with it!
How often do you publish a post?
I usually publish a post three times a week! Occasionally I’ll throw in a bonus post every now and then.
Have you had writer’s block? If so, how did you overcome it?
For the most part I haven’t really came across writer’s block (not for my blog at least!). I always have some type of notebook or piece a paper with me where I jot down every idea that comes to mind. I swear I get the most random spurs of inspiration. They can come from driving around, walking to class or even in the shower!
Do you have a blogging schedule? Daily theme? Please share!
Right now my blogging schedule is Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If I have an extra post that I’d like to share it would typically go up on a Tuesday. Since my blog is primarily fashion and style based, I try to share at least 2 fashion posts a week and one lifestyle post, behind the blog post, or any other non-fashion related post.
Who’s your favourite blogger before you started blogging and why? (Name and blog URL)
Catilin Covington of Southern Curls and Pearls (http://www.southerncurlsandpearls.com/)!
I have followed her for a while before I started blogging and was one of the bloggers that inspired me to start blogging! She has such a classic style and her photos are always gorgeous.
Who’s your favourite blogger now and why? (Name and blog URL)
I’ve been obsessed with Emily Gemma from The Sweetest Thing (http://www.thesweetestthingblog.com/) lately!
I love all of her outfit posts and she’s so fun to following along on Snapchat, especially during her pregnancy!
What type of blogs are you interested in reading and why?
I always love fashion and styling blogs. I’m always on the hunt for new outfit inspirations and how to style new pieces.
