Meet Heather of Heather LeGuilloux!

Your name: Heather LeGuilloux
Blog social media accounts:
Meet Heather
Let’s get to know YOU:

Tell us a little bit about yourself (mini bio):

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and I provide online therapy to individuals who are needing a bit more support in their life. I am quite new to blogging, having just started at the end of last year, but I’m really enjoying the challenge and pushing myself to produce quality and useful blog content!

What do you do outside of blogging (think school or work):

I’m constantly trying to self-study new concepts through other blogs or professional magazine so that I can share this knowledge with others through my own blog. I also work full-time at an organization that supports young people who are seeking counselling support on their own.

What do you like to do on your down time? I enjoy being in nature which includes walking or hiking, practicing pilates or yoga, and spending time with friends and family. I also really enjoy cooking (and eating). And I love experiencing new cultures by traveling (I have been to several continents around the world and have learned so much about myself and others through these travels).

Blog niche: mental health
What’s the purpose of your blog? Providing mental health & wellness information in an ‘easy-to-understand’ and interactive format.
Who’s your target? Anyone who is interested in learning more about mental health, who is impacted directly by mental health concerns, or who is concerned for a loved one or someone in their life who has experienced mental health concerns. Since mental health concerns are actually a lot more common than most people realize, my blog is really for everyone.
What’s the best way for your audience to contact you? I check my email quite regularly, so I can be contacted through heather@heatherleguilloux.ca or on any of my social media channels!

How would you describe your blogging style?

Professional but without too much medical jargon.
When did you start blogging? October 2016
What inspired you to start blogging? Wanting to support others who were experiencing mental health concerns and who might not have support readily available to them.
What’s the biggest change in your life since you started blogging? I have been a lot busier! But I have also noticed that I feel more passionate about creating useful and interesting content and that is a great feeling to have.
Blogging goals:
  • Short term: Start promoting a free eBook and paid eWorkbook for my audience to download.
  • Long term: I would be interested in starting either a Podcast or a Vblog (video blog) to be able to provide information through a different, more engaging medium.
If you could start blogging all over again, what would you do differently? I would have loved to devote more time to my blog in the beginning.. there was a lot to learn!
How do you motivate yourself to continue blogging? I have always been quite a motivated individual (I rarely leave things to the last minute) and I feel very passionate about reducing the stigma of mental health so I think that lights and a natural fire under me to keep blogging.
What attributes has helped you become successful blogger? I feel like my studies have helped me to hone my writing skills and I also really enjoy the creative process (I make all my own images with the help of Canva.com).
How have you tried to increase your blog traffic? Which way has been the most successful? I have been trying to increase my followers on social media and also promote my blog posts through Facebook groups.
What’s your favourite social media platform and why? I enjoy Facebook a lot because it’s very interactive.. the other social media sites are great in their own respect (Pinterest as a search engine, for example) but I enjoy the community feel that Facebook provides, especially being a part of various blogging and mental health groups.
Most of your traffic comes from which social media platform? I’m actually not entirely sure.. I would say Facebook but I haven’t checked the numbers to back up this proof!

What’s your favourite blogging group on Facebook?

Blogging with a Smile and Blogging Babes and Business Bosses are tied for first place.

Do you have a freebie for your readers? If so, what is it? Do we need to subscribe to receive it?

Yes! Currently I have a free self-care checklist that can be accessed by subscribing to my list.
What’s your greatest win so far with blogging? All of the positive comments about my blog posts.. it’s actually been quite heartwarming to hear the feedback from my audience about how much they appreciate my work and the information I’m sharing around wellness.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve so far with blogging? It’s a ton of work especially ‘behind-the-scenes’.
Has blogging surprised you in any way? If so, how? I was surprised to discover just how generous and helpful other bloggers are. It really is a neat community to be a part of!
How often do you publish a post? I post on my website once a week on Sunday.
Have you had writer’s block? If so, how did you overcome it? I actually have the opposite.. I have so many topics I would love to cover, but I don’t always have the time to sit down and devote to writing.
Do you have a blogging schedule? Daily theme? Please share! I am organizing my blog posts ahead of time and I intend to focus on a theme one month (eg last month I wrote 4 blog posts on the topic of anxiety) and the next month write about various topics.
Have you guest posted for someone? Yes!
Do you accept guest posts? If yes, tell us about it! Yes! I currently do a monthly Q&A with a therapist, but this can be adapted to other professionals/bloggers in the mental health or wellness field.
