Pinterest: @theurbenlifeLet’s get to know YOU:Tell us a little bit about yourself (mini bio): I graduated from UT Dallas with my B.A. in Emerging Media and Communication AKA social media 😉 The Urben Life blog was established in 2016, a couple months after I married my high school sweetheart and took his last name. Hence the name of this blog! My husband and I are both lactose intolerant and I have an egg sensitivity, so all of my cooking is dairy-free and egg-free – sometimes vegan.
What do you do outside of blogging (think school or work): Outside of blogging I work as a digital marketing and social media strategist. I took my love and knowledge of social media and blogging to create my digital marketing business.

What’s the purpose of your blog? The purpose of my blog is to share dairy-free and egg-free recipes!
Who’s your target? My target audience loves experimenting in the kitchen and has an open mind when it comes to cooking. Both newbies and seasoned cooks!
What’s the best way for your audience to contact you? I can be easily reached via social media or email.
How would you describe your blogging style? My blogging style is very transparent and much like having a conversation with me in person.
When did you start blogging? I started The Urben Life in the spring of 2016, but I’ve been blogging for years.
What inspired you to start blogging? As I mentioned, I have blogged for several years but never “seriously” or on schedule. With The Urben Life, I was inspired by my husband to start blogging about our new life and the recipes we create together.
What’s the biggest change in your life since you started blogging? The biggest change in my life since I started blogging was being more mindful when plating and serving food – you know, for the gram! But really, I have become one of the those who take photos of their food before they eat.
- Short term: I would love to grow my following and connect with other food bloggers.
- Long term: Having an established blog with a loyal following would be a dream!
How do you motivate yourself to continue blogging? My blog focuses around dairy-free and egg-free recipes. For me, the recipes I share are part of my life. I am constantly motivated to create and experiment with new foods to share with others.
What attributes has helped you become successful blogger? I am a compulsive planner, so I love having my posts planned out months in advance. This has really helped because I’m able to focus on networking and moderation, while also creating new content and repurposing old posts.
How have you tried to increase your blog traffic? Which way has been the most successful? I have increased my blog traffic by connecting with other bloggers in Facebook groups. I have also identified several hashtags to use on Instagram and Twitter.
What’s your favourite social media platform and why? I really love Instagram! My favorite part about blogging is getting to share recipes and connect with others. I love how easy it is to chat with others.
Most of your traffic comes from which social media platform? Most of my traffic comes from Facebook and Pinterest.
What’s your favourite blogging group on Facebook?
Do you have a freebie for your readers? If so, what is it? Do we need to subscribe to receive it? I am in the process of creating dairy-free and egg-free eBooks. I plan to have some freebies!
What’s your greatest win so far with blogging? My greatest win with blogging so far is growing my followers organically.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve so far with blogging? The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far with blogging is the importance of quality photographs. One of my blogging goals for this year is to go through my old blog posts and do some content upgrades.
Has blogging surprised you in any way? If so, how?
How often do you publish a post? Most of my posts are scheduled out months in advance. I try to have posts published 2 times a week, but occasionally I will sneak an extra one in there.
Have you had writer’s block? If so, how did you overcome it? I have experienced writer’s block, but I overcame it by stepping away from my laptop for awhile, going on a walk, then connecting with others on social media.
Do you have a blogging schedule? Daily theme? Please share! Absolutely! I am still learning from my analytics but I generally post 2-3 times a week. It’s currently Monday, Thursday, and once during the weekend. When I first started out I was sharing wedding planning tips and those would go out on Wednesday.
Do you accept guest posts? If yes, tell us about it! I would be happy to accept guest posts! Of course, I am looking for somebody who lives a dairy-free and egg-free lifestyle – possibly vegan. I would be interested in having a guest blogger post their original recipes or in regards to switching to a dairy-free and egg-free diet.
What type of blogs are you interested in reading and why? I am interested in food blogs because I like connecting with other foodies. Dallas lifestyle blogs are fun to follow as well! I also love wedding blogs because wedding planning is a (not so well) hidden passion of mine.
