Let’s get to know YOU:
Tell us a little bit about yourself (mini bio):
I’m a thirty something year old wife and mother of two.
My oldest is three and my youngest is 6 months and so it is pretty hectic in my household!
I love travelling, which has been put on hold temporarily, my favourite places are Thailand and Iceland.
I have a bit of a dream to write a book and have just signed up to a writing course. Yay!
What do you do outside of blogging (think school or work):
I work as a Commercial Insurance Account handler but am currently enjoying my maternity leave 🙂
What do you like to do on your down time?
I like to read when I can. I have a new love of cooking, cooking from scratch was one of my goals for this year.
Oh and wine I drink wine.
Blog niche: Parenting and Lifestyle
What’s the purpose of your blog?
Somewhere for me to write about my experiences as a mum.
If I can make one person realise they are not alone when things are tough or help with a problem then that would make me happy.
But it was mostly started as something for me. Something that I could do that I would enjoy and could put my stamp on. I love being a Mummy, I do not love being ‘Just Mummy’. At times I felt I was losing me. I was losing the ability to hold a conversation with an adult or interact in anything that didn’t include Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig or Mike the Knight. So this has become my release.
Who’s your target?
Parents mostly but anyone who enjoys about reading about family life, with the occasional book or product review. Something for everyone to some degree.
What’s the best way for your audience to contact you?
Email or Facebook as I use those most.
My email is firstname.lastname@example.org
How would you describe your blogging style?
Honest. I’m not one for sugar-coating things as that’s not real and wouldn’t help anyone so there’s the good and the bad stuff.
I do have some filters as I don’t like to offend people unnecessarily.
When did you start blogging?
I am a newbie!! I only started in December 2016 so I’m learning (and open to help and suggestions)
What inspired you to start blogging?
As I have said I needed to do something for me, I have been reading blogs for a long time but always out barriers up as to why I couldn’t or shouldn’t do it. But then I spoke to the lovely Kelly-Anne over at Mimi Rose and Me (http://www.mimiroseandme.com/) and she was great, she helped with my questions and even offered to let me guest post to help me break into the blogging world and so I decided to give it a go.
What’s the biggest change in your life since you started blogging?
I would say my attitude as a whole. I’m happier.
I would even go as far as to say that I am a better person. I am willing to try new things and go new places so that I can write about it. I have filled my time with more things this last few months than I have before. I have got my confidence back to some degree.
- Short term: To become comfortable with my writing, SEO and social media platforms. To enjoy blogging.
- Long term: I want to become part of the community and have a good following of people who love my blog and enjoy what I have to say. Then maybe consider monetising the blog.
If you could start blogging all over again, what would you do differently?
To do it sooner and not put obstacles in the way.
How do you motivate yourself to continue blogging?
I enjoy writing and have found blogging quite addictive and so that keeps me motivated.
What’s your favourite social media platform and why?
At the minute it is Facebook but that’s because I’m more comfortable with it. I have read a lot lately that Pintrest is a must for bloggers so I do plan to start looking into that.
Most of your traffic comes from which social media platform?
Twitter. I try to do linkies and so with them being promoted on Twitter naturally that’s where my traffic comes from.
What’s your favourite blogging group on Facebook?
I have two, Blogging 101 and UK Parent Bloggers.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve so far with blogging?
That blogging isn’t just writing posts. There is a lot of work that goes into getting out there.
Has blogging surprised you in any way? If so, how?
The work that goes into promoting your blog, I have read a few posts where some bloggers are making a lot of money from their blogs. I am in complete awe of how they have got to that point.
How often do you publish a post?
I have been trying to do three a week but I target myself to at least two. I hope that it is going to still be a realistic target when I go back to work.
Have you had writer’s block? If so, how did you overcome it?
Not yet. I have a list of blog post topics that I want to cover at some point and then obviously day-to-day stuff comes up.
Ask me again when I’ve gone through my list.
Have you guest posted for someone?
I have, my first guest post went live 11 February. It was a piece about New Mums.
- For whom? Rachel Bustin.
- Blog URL: http://rachelbustin.com/new-mum-stories/pickle-poppet/
Do you accept guest posts? If yes, tell us about it!
Not yet but I hope to in the future.
Who’s your favourite blogger before you started blogging and why? (Name and blog URL)
Kelly-Anne at Mimi Rose and Me – http://www.mimiroseandme.com/
As I said I would read blogs if I had googled something and it came up. I hadn’t ever really followed one.
Kelly-Anne’s was the first one that I followed. She has a very easy style of writing, when I started reading I found myself just flicking between posts without really thinking about it and before I knew it I had been reading for a while – a sure sign of someone to follow I think.
Who’s your favourite blogger now and why? (Name and blog URL)
I still love reading Kelly-Anne’s blog.
There are so many blogs that I love reading at the minute, I would say
Lauren at Dilan and Me http://dilanandme.com/
I like how Lauren writes. All of the blogs I frequently visit have a similar style where it is more like a conversation. I really like reading her posts on gentle parenting and have found some of her ways very useful to try with my boy.
What type of blogs are you interested in reading and why?
Obviously I am drawn to other parenting blogs but I also like travel.
I love seeing other people’s adventures. I like to get ideas on where else I would like to go.
