Meet Larissa #TheBloggerBehindTheBlog

Let’s get to know YOU:

Tell us a little bit about yourself (mini bio): My name is Larissa and I am 24 years old. I was born in Haiti, but I currently live in the United States. I swam competitively for about 13 years, and after a hiatus, I’m back in the pool. I love to travel and learn about different cultures.

What do you do outside of blogging? (think school or work): I am currently an assistant coach for swimming. I coach the younger kids, and I love it! As for school, my goal is to eventually go back to get my Master’s and my Ph.D.

What do you like to do on your down time? I love to read, so if anyone has any recommendations, I’m all ears. I love hanging out with my dog, Biggs. I also just love watching some TV, or playing some solitaire.

Blog niche:

What’s the purpose of your blog? I would love to inspire people to do more travelling of their own!

Who’s your target? My target audience is anyone who loves to travel, anyone who wants to learn more about travelling, and anyone who wants to live vicariously through others.

What’s the best way for your audience to contact you? The best way for contact would be through email, which is

How would you describe your blogging style? I would describe my style as raw and honest. At least, that’s what I’m aiming for.

When did you start blogging? I started my blog in April 2016; however, I decided to start taking my blog more seriously at the beginning of 2017.

What inspired you to start blogging? My vlog actually inspired me to start blogging. I am more comfortable writing than videoing, so I figured if I was going out of my comfort zone already by having a vlog, I could continue pushing myself out of my box by creating a blog. I also love to write, so it was a much easier decision to decide on.

What’s the biggest change in your life since you started blogging? I spend more time trying to think of ways to improve my writing, and on every trip I go on, I think of ways I can incorporate a blog post.

Blogging goals:

  • Short term: I am going to set up my subscription emails in the next few weeks, and start posting more consistently. I also plan to move my blog from to so I can have more freedom in designing my site.I would also love to have more readers and interaction on my blog, and my social media sites.
  • Long term: I plan to start monetizing my blog once I feel ready.

If you could start blogging all over again, what would you do differently? I would definitely do more research before diving right in!

How do you motivate yourself to continue blogging? Sometimes it is hard to push myself, as you can see at the beginning with the sporadic timing of my blog posts. I force myself to remember that I love writing, that I love travelling, and that maybe what I have to share may help others.

What attributes has helped you become successful blogger? What is the definition of being a “successful blogger”? I wouldn’t say that I am one right now, but I believe I’m on the right path. I think my love for writing and my newfound dedication will push me in the right direction.

How have you tried to increase your blog traffic? Which way has been the most successful? I’ve tried to increase my traffic in various ways, including using Instagram, Twitter, my Facebook page, my personal Facebook, and Facebook groups to promote posts. The most successful would definitely be the Facebook groups. I’m in the process of creating a Pinterest account, for I’ve heard that they generate a lot of traffic as well.

What’s your favourite social media platform and why? Facebook would have to be my favorite because it’s so easy to connect with other people and find other interesting blogs.

Most of your traffic comes from which social media platform? Most of my traffic comes from Facebook.

What’s your favourite blogging group on Facebook? I think my favorite group would be Blogging 101, although I am truly grateful for all the information I’m learning from all the blogging groups I am a part.

Do you have a freebie for your readers? If so, what is it? Do we need to subscribe to receive it? I am currently working on creating a freebie for my readers. You would need to subscribe in order to receive it, and I’m thinking of doing either a mini travel planner, or an e-book of tips on how to save money while travelling.

What’s your greatest win so far with blogging? My greatest win so far would be deciding to dedicate more time and effort towards my blog. This is definitely a win in order for there to be growth.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve so far with blogging? The biggest lesson would definitely be that you don’t have to do it alone. I was so relieved when I found and joined the many Facebook blogging groups. So much information is out there, and there are a lot of people willing to help you. You just have to reach out when you need help.

Has blogging surprised you in any way? If so, how? I knew blogging wasn’t going to necessarily be easy, but it did surprise me how hard it is to consistently post content.

How often do you publish a post? As I stated earlier, I used to post sporadically. I’m working on posting more consistently. My goal is to post twice a week for now. Once on Fridays for Feature Fridays, and on Mondays with my own content. As time goes on, I may increase to three times a week, but only time will tell with that one.

Have you had writer’s block? If so, how did you overcome it? Yes, I’ve definitely had writer’s block. To overcome it, I will google travel blog topics and see if there’s one that I personally can relate to and write about.

Do you have a blogging schedule? Daily theme? Please share! For now, I don’t have a specific blogging schedule besides Feature Fridays, where I’ll share a guest post with my readers.

Have you guest posted for someone? Yes, I have guest posted for someone and I’m currently working on material to be a guest on other blogs.

Do you accept guest posts? If yes, tell us about it! Yes!  I accept guest posts. Every Friday I plan to do Feature Fridays where I’ll have a guest post about their travel experiences. I have an interview template and I’m working on more, but you’re not limited to that. I have someone who is planning to do a travel guide to a certain city, or people talking about a specific trip that they loved. I don’t want to hinder anyone’s creative processes, so I’m pretty open and flexible to what you’d like to do. Email me if you’re interested! Again, my email is

Have you made money from blogging? If so, how? No, I haven’t made any money from blogging. At least, not yet. Hopefully, I will start making money in doing something that I love.

Give advice to someone who wants to start blogging: Blogging is scary, and it’s intimidating, but it’s definitely worthwhile and so fulfilling. My advice is take baby steps. When you look at someone else’s blog, it’s so easy to get down on yourself, but they had to start somewhere too. Don’t compare your blog with others. Everyone is on their own journey, and each story is worth sharing. So don’t be afraid to share yours!

Tell us one thing your readers don’t know about you: Although English was my first written language, it was not my first spoken language.

Anything else you’d like to share with us? Go for it!!! I am always open to constructive criticism, so if you see anything that could be better or any suggestions, send me a message. I think interaction is important, and I would love to interact with you!

Leave a message for your readers: Thank you for taking the time to read and get to know me a little more!
