Let’s get to know YOU:
Tell us a little bit about yourself (mini bio): I’m from Ireland and I love to travel. I’m usually never in the same place for very long. I’m currently in Serbia, just after spending a month in Paris and I’m usually based between London and my home in Leitrim, Ireland. I write a lot. I’ve just finished my first book, a novel for 9-12 year olds, and I’m just starting my second.
What do you do outside of blogging (think school or work): I work as a casting agent for film in the UK, but I’m trying to do less casting and more writing recently. I’m taking a career break and currently travelling across Europe to volunteer with refugees and to write.
What do you like to do on your down time? I spend far too much time on Instagram and Facebook. When not stuck in a screen, I live exploring, taking photos, reading, drinking wine and writing. Ideally not all at the same time.
Blog niche: Travel and writing – lately also volunteering with refugees.
What’s the purpose of your blog? Initially it was a personal interest and then it became a way of keeping friends and family up to date with my adventures.
Who’s your target? Whoever wants to read it
What’s the best way for your audience to contact you? Email email@example.com or message me through Facebook @ramblingruthblog
How would you describe your blogging style? Personal reflection
When did you start blogging? Nov 2016
What inspired you to start blogging? I had a lot of ideas for projects I would like to undertake. I was at the Cloud 9 Conference in Ireland and was incredibly inspired by people from around the world who had achieved amazing things. Most of them were bloggers and I realised I wanted to make lifestyle changes similar to a lot of those people and to record and share it with them and with others.
What’s the biggest change in your life since you started blogging? I’ve learned a lot more about social media and technical aspects of blogging.
- Short term: I’d like to guest blog or write a feature for one of the major sites.
- Long term: To build a blog that can support a 100% remote lifestyle
If you could start blogging all over again, what would you do differently? Nothing. I’m still a newbie, so I’m learning as I go.
How do you motivate yourself to continue blogging? Every comment left on my blog, or Facebook share etc reminds me that somebody is interested in what I write so as long as I have one person reading it, I’ll continue writing it. (Thank God for my Mum!)
What attributes has helped you become successful blogger? Writing good content. The posts that have done best are the ones I felt proud of and that I knew I had done a good job on.
How have you tried to increase your blog traffic? Which way has been the most successful? I joined a few blogging groups on Facebook to share new blogposts and I also share new posts on Instagram. I struggle a lot with Facebook and it’s really time consuming but Instagram is very easy to grow and I’ve seen a steady increase in traffic coming from it since I set it up
What’s your favourite social media platform and why? Instagram. I love photos. I love seeing other people’s photos and interacting with them. It also gives me lots of ideas for my own photos. It’s easy to grow.
Most of your traffic comes from which social media platform? Facebook and Instagram.
What’s your favourite blogging group on Facebook? Irish Bloggers – it’s good to see local content by local people.
Do you have a freebie for your readers? If so, what is it? Do we need to subscribe to receive it? Free satisfaction with every read….. Does that count?
What’s your greatest win so far with blogging? Just starting the blog was a big step for me. I’m not good with technology so my brother really helped me. I’d been toying with the idea of starting a blog for a while so getting it off the ground was exciting.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve so far with blogging? That it’s hard to get people to read it. I have a great core group of readers but it’s pretty tough to get new people interested.
Has blogging surprised you in any way? If so, how? I think it’s people who have surprised me rather than blogging itself. People I knew for years have shown sides to themselves that I hadn’t seen before. People I barely knew at all have become my friends. Fellow bloggers like to help each other. That’s strange in the world I have come from so it’s a welcome change.
How often do you publish a post? I try for once a week.
Have you had writer’s block? If so, how did you overcome it? Always, but I keep a little notebook with me all the time and write the smallest ideas. Or I keep them in my notes on my phone. Then, if I’m stuck, I look back over the notes and over photos until something jumps out at me.
Do you have a blogging schedule? Daily theme? Please share! I don’t but I really need to start one.
Have you guest posted for someone?
Do you accept guest posts? If yes, tell us about it! It hasn’t come up yet, but yes, why not.
Have you made money from blogging? If so, how? Not a cent, but companies and individuals have subsidises or sponsored the charity work that I do so I have given them a mention on the blog and social media. I hope that in the future I will be able to get freebies for travelling and reviewing etc.
How long had you been blogging before you made any money?
