Let’s get to know YOU
Tell us a little bit about yourself (mini bio): I am an alumnae of the 2014/15 Disney Parks Moms Panel. I split my time between planning my next Walt Disney World vacation, being the Business Sales & Incentive Coordinator for a community bank in Northern Indiana and running a volleyball club where I take on the roles of secretary, navigator, head cheerleader, treasurer, athletic trainer and team psychologist.
What do you do outside of blogging (think school or work): I work fulltime as the Business Sales & Incentive Coordinator for a community bank in Northern Indiana and run a travel volleyball club.
What do you like to do on your down time? Downtime?! Who has downtime? When I get a split second I do love to read.
What’s the purpose of your blog? I blog about Disney Parks Travel and Entertainment.
Who’s your target? I target anyone who is a child at heart with a love with all things Disney.
What’s the best way for your audience to contact you? Email (Disneymousequest@gmail.com) or blog comments
How would you describe your blogging style? First person, conversational
When did you start blogging? I started blogging for the ESPN Wide World of Sports Blog when I was a member of the Disney Parks Moms Panel. When I finished my time on the Panel I helped create the blog that accompanied the MouseQuest Podcast.
What inspired you to start blogging? I just knew I had information to impart about planning Disney vacations given my love for Disney travel and entertainment.
What’s the biggest change in your life since you started blogging? I had to developed a keen sense of time management to help keep all the balls that I have in the air.
Blogging goals: As with everyone who blogs, I want a loyal group of readers who come back time and again to read my posts.
- Short term: Increased pageview
- Long term: Increased monetization
If you could start blogging all over again, what would you do differently? I would do more research about the art of blogging. I made mistakes along the way that simple research would have prevented.
How do you motivate yourself to continue blogging? The good thing about being a Disney blogger is that the parks and entertainment divisions always have something new to discuss.
What attributes has helped you become successful blogger? The knowledge I have about Disney from being on the Moms Panel as well as visiting the parks more than 20 times.
How have you tried to increase your blog traffic? Which way has been the most successful? I am always on the hunt to increase blog traffic. I got a major jump in page views when I started focusing on Pinterest. It is now my #1 referral source.
What’s your favourite social media platform and why? Pinterest, large referral rates.
Most of your traffic comes from which social media platform? Pinterest.
What’s your favourite blogging group on Facebook? Disney Loving Bloggers on Social Media
What’s your greatest win so far with blogging? Hitting the major milestone is always a win such as achieving 1,000 PV per month then 2,000 PV per month. My next win will be 3,000 per month.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve so far with blogging? Ask for help. Being an island on your own is no way to build a brand. You have to ask for what you want: page views, shares, etc.
Has blogging surprised you in any way? If so, how? Being in a career where there is normally one right way to do things (ie. 2 + 2 will always equal 4) it has been hard to pin down a ‘right way’ to blog. Each blogger seems to be finding success doing different things (ie. posting schedule, social media, layout, etc.). What works for one blogger doesn’t necessarily work for another blogger.
How often do you publish a post? I publish a regular blog post once per week, a Disney Park & Entertainment news wrap-up bi-weekly and any time a major Disney movie is on the horizon I usually do a character series leading up to the release and a review.
Have you had writer’s block? If so, how did you overcome it? Luckily with the speed of Disney news there is always something to write about. The problem comes in the angle I will take on each topic.
Do you have a blogging schedule? Daily theme? Please share! See above.
Have you guest posted for someone? I never have, but I would love to.
Do you accept guest posts? If yes, tell us about it! Definitely! I don’t actively seek guest posts but if the opportunity comes I would definitely look at it.
Have you made money from blogging? If so, how? Yes. But I will be honest, it isn’t much. Definitely not enough to quit my day job. I use Amazon Affiliates and Google AdSense.
How long had you been blogging before you made any money? The website, which started as a podcast, has been around since 2012 I only started monetizing last November.
Who’s your favourite blogger before you started blogging and why? (Name and blog URL) Gayle Turner – DisneyGals.com
Who’s your favourite blogger now and why? (Name and blog URL) Gayle is a perennial fav. I am also a huge fan of Amiyrah Martin at 4hatsandFrugal.com and Tania Lamb at lolalambchops.com
What type of blogs are you interested in reading and why? Disney, travel, frugal living – surprisingly the three are very intertwined. By living frugally you would be surprised the money you can save to travel.
