Meet Kristin #TheBloggerBehindTheBlog
Let’s get to know YOU:
Tell us a little bit about yourself (mini bio): If you ask my boyfriend… I’m a four foot ten inch ball of sass, who likes corgis, cats, and coffee. But that barely scratches the surface.  I grew up in a small suburb of a large, southern US city as an only child with the most amazing parents.  I’ve always loved anything that allows me to express my creativity and my love of helping others. I have always had a heart for exploring forests, cities, lakes, and oceans, but have grown to be more of the girl-ier type in recent years.  Don’t get me wrong, I still love a good DIY project in the yard, but I have fallen head over heels for all things beauty.

What do you do outside of blogging (think school or work):  I’m working full time as a Paralegal in a law firm and am preparing for my state certification exam that is coming up in April.  I love getting to help everyday people navigate the complex legal world.  I assist my two attorneys in all aspects of the legal process and communicate with my clients to explain the process and what’s going on.  I do a lot of the hard work in preparation for hearings, trials, and giving the attorneys and clients all necessary information to help resolve our cases.  We handle workers’ compensation, personal injury, and civil litigation claims.  It’s challenging, but rewarding and I love what I do.

What do you like to do on your down time?  Oh gosh, all kinds of things.  I spend a lot of time with my boyfriend – we love watching movies.  Right now we’re on the Marvel series —- SOOOO GOOD… Even if you’re a girly girl and think you won’t like it, there’s a lot of super fine super heroes with great abs so watch them. We’re planning some summer adventures to the beach and maybe the mountains. We love to travel together.  I also really love to workout.  I have some stomach health issues, so staying on top of my fitness is incredibly important to me. I workout 4-5 days a week and it’s such a great stress reliever.  I also spend a lot of time blogging, and playing with my fuzzball kitten, Jax. But I also like to make sure to take time to pamper myself. You know what I’m talking about bath bombs, a good facial and at-home manicure, some candy and Netflix. This is so important for managing stress and keeping up with busy weeks.
Blog niche: Um I don’t think I have one. I write a lot about beauty and skincare, but I also have been expanding and writing on other topics. It’s fun to step out of your comfort zone and learn about other topics while you write.
What’s the purpose of your blog?  I want to be relate-able and that blog every girl can go to and be like “yes! I’ve been there before, oh this is great advice” or “omg, I have to try this face mask or workout” or whatever it may be.  I want to be the one stop shop for every girl – hence “the modern girl’s  guide to life”
Who’s your target? Probably girls between the ages of 18-30, who like to read and try new things.
What’s the best way for your audience to contact you?  Email probably, but if you reach out to me on any social media platform, I will respond.  I love getting to know my followers and I want to build a circle of friends with them! So don’t be strangers!!!
How would you describe your blogging style?  Pretty relaxed? I think?  I mean I try to follow basic grammar rules for the most part, but I like to bend the rules. 🙂 If I change my mind in the middle of the week and want to write about a topic that isn’t in my planner, I’m going to do it.  Maybe flexible is a good word. I don’t like to force myself to stick to rules.
When did you start blogging? June of 2016. I’m still fairly new to this whole thing!
What inspired you to start blogging?  I’ve always had a passion for writing and have always wanted to write and publish a book.  I thought this would be a good first step.  Plus, I love reading blogs and was like why not start my own. And then when I found out that you can earn money from it too, I was like oh that’s such a bonus. It’s also so rewarding to see my posts getting shared and others commenting on them.
What’s the biggest change in your life since you started blogging? I’m more cognizant of my time.  I have a better understanding of how valuable it is.  I work 8-5 every day and make sure that I work on my blog a little each day.  I also tend to make sure I set aside time to relax on the weekends, even if it’s just a little bit.
Blogging goals:
  • Short term:  Gain more active followers & get a mailing list going – I know I need to set this up ASAP.
  • Long term:  Start a Youtube Channel and incorporate it in my blog… also make this my full time job.
If you could start blogging all over again, what would you do differently?  Not wait to purchase my theme.  I fell in love with my blog’s theme a long time ago and just waited and waited and WAITED to purchase it.  I kind of regret that.  I probably would have also put more thought into my name of my blog.
How do you motivate yourself to continue blogging?  I always look forward to the photos and helping someone else out.  I know that those are two different things, but I feel like a great photo can tell you a lot about a product or can show how to do something better than words can sometimes.  I like the how-to posts and reviews that can help someone decide whether or not to purchase a product or how to change a setting on their blog. Or even when other people come to me for advice – I love being able to just make a difference.
What attributes has helped you become successful blogger?  “You don’t  do this because it’s a job.  It’s what you’re passionate about.  You don’t write about makeup because it can earn you a couple bucks… You do it because you love makeup.  I’m pretty sure if you didn’t earn any money at all, you would still spend just as much time on your blog.” – My boyfriend, Jacob.  Ugh, he gets me.
How have you tried to increase your blog traffic? Which way has been the most successful?  A little, but I honestly feel like I don’t have time to constantly promote my blog… Although, I think between Pinterest and just honest comments on other people’s blogs are my two best ways to increase real, true traffic. A lot of people constantly boast about all of these income earning tactics and I can’t stand it.
What’s your favourite social media platform and why? Instagram, even though it doesn’t draw in such a huge crowd. I love looking at other people’s photography.  I’m not sure if Bloglovin’ counts, but I think more people on there appreciate the time and effort put into each post they read.
Most of your traffic comes from which social media platform? Pinterest, I think.
What’s your favourite blogging group on Facebook?  I really like Blog While You 9-5.  It’s for those of us who can’t spend every waking hour on our blog.
Do you have a freebie for your readers? If so, what is it? Do we need to subscribe to receive it? I had some phone and desktop wallpapers in the month of December, and I’m about to post a budget planner spreadsheet this week! (Last week in February) No you don’t have to subscribe, but I would love it if you did… or at least a comment, like, or some acknowledgment, haha.
What’s your greatest win so far with blogging?  I received a check for $100.00 for advertisements and have received several products for review on my blog.  It’s so rewarding to have a company send you something to test out.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve so far with blogging?  It’s not as easy as a lot of people think it is.  It’s not a get rich quick deal. It’s not get famous overnight.  And if that’s why you want to start a blog, you’re not going to last very long.  There’s a lot to manage on a blog if you’re going to do it right.  It’s time consuming and you have to put a lot of work into the photos, posts, and your brand to get subscribers and readers.
Has blogging surprised you in any way? If so, how?  I guess just in how many people seem to run blogs for money, and not for enjoyment.  It’s a little sad, in my opinion.
How often do you publish a post? At least once per week.  Depending on my schedule, I may post an extra post or two in there.
Have you had writer’s block? If so, how did you overcome it?  Oh absolutely.  If there’s a blogger out there that says they haven’t, he/she is lying.  I tend to just free write.  I review my recent posts and I have a few posts that I write monthly (favorites and unboxings), so if I can, I’ll go ahead and publish those.  I try to always keep a list of posts “scheduled in my planner,” but I don’t make myself stick with those in case I get a product sample or have a new idea come up.
Do you have a blogging schedule? Daily theme? Please share!  I try to make sure I do a monthly beauty/skincare favorites and always do an unboxing.  I just cancelled my Ipsy for Play! by Sephora.  Otherwise, I give myself the leeway to post what I want to when I want to.
Have you guest posted for someone? I’ve done a “Life After University” post about how I found my career.
Do you accept guest posts? If yes, tell us about it!  I would love to have guest posts – I need to come up with a specific series, but if anyone has any ideas they’d love to send to me to review, I totally am accepting EVERYTHING 🙂
Have you made money from blogging? If so, how?  Yeah! Not much, but just a little.  I’ve gotten a little over $100.00 in money from advertisements and I’ve gotten over $100.00 in products for free to review.
How long had you been blogging before you made any money?  I got my first product review after blogging for only a couple of months, surprisingly.  It was from DermaE and I’ve worked with them again since then.  I love their products.
Who’s your favourite blogger before you started blogging and why? (Name and blog URL)  Either Zoella or Christie Cash because they have such diverse posts and pretty photos.  They’re my blogging goals.  Also, Annie because she nails shopping appropriately for us short girls. She is my work wardrobe GOALS. ;; and
Who’s your favourite blogger now and why? (Name and blog URL) Still the same.
What type of blogs are you interested in reading and why? fashion, apartments, beauty, general lifestyle, people that are real.

I seriously read so many blogs this was a hard question.
Give advice to someone who wants to start blogging: You’re the one who defines your success.  Celebrate every little milestone – if you do start a blog, there are a lot of little milestones you can reach along your journey.  If you don’t celebrate them all, you may not realize how successful are.  It doesn’t take a million subscribers to make yourself successful.  Don’t compare yourself to everyone else.  Also, make sure you do your research before starting your blog.  There’s a lot to them, but you can do it!
Tell us one thing your readers don’t know about you: I have a serious obsession with reading true crime stories. They’re my favorite type of stories to read, which is ironic because I’m scared of my own shadow.
Anything else you’d like to share with us? Go for it!!! I just want to say thanks for letting me do this interview!
Leave a message for your readers:  I’ve started an advice column/blog series where I’ll be answering readers’ questions about blogging, life, makeup, college, literally whatever you want to ask me.  I just started too, so drop me your questions and I can answer them! You can specify if you want your name/blog/social media profile to be included or if you want your question to be anonymous! You can ask questions at:
