Your name: Rebekah Allan
Name of your blog: I have 2 – Angel Foods & Rebekah Allan
Blog social media handles:
Let’s get to know YOU:
Tell us a little bit about yourself (mini bio): I write, blog, speak, create and sell daily and it is the best fun!
A self-confessed content creation + selling machine, Rebekah makes $5000 per month from a blog supporting herself, her family and a mortage. She is the crash-test dummy of blog business, sharing income reports and teaching what she knows from 5 years experiences with online products.
What do you do outside of blogging (think school or work): I was able to quit my full time job last October to ”go all in” on my little blog business. Journalling, reading, going to the beach, camping are my bit of fun. But so is ‘work’ – I would do it, even if I earned $0.
What do you like to do on your down time? Sleep. Cook. Eat 😛 I sleep a LOT – like 9 hours at least and am usually in bed by 9pm. I’m reading books while waiting for bed. Oh, I do love hanging out with hottie boyfriend. He’s hot.
Blog niche: Cake business and the business of baking. Turned business of blogging with the 2nd blog.
What’s the purpose of your blog? For people who love cakes and want to make money from cakes. Part food blog, part decorating video tutorials, part inspirational/motivational and part business advice.
Who’s your target? Cake Decorators turned bloggers and online + entrepreneurs
How would you describe your blogging style? Fast paced and methodical step-by-step trainings. I create really quickly (self-confessed content creating machine.)
When did you start blogging? My first attempt was 2010 with my cake business, but I got overwhelmed and confused. After upgrading my website and putting my big girl panties on, I doubled-down on blogging in mid-2014 and publish about 200 posts a year.
What inspired you to start blogging? It was for the love of cupcakes and cakes 😛 I knew so much about cake decorating + baking (qualified baker and pastry cook) and then starting a cake business (franchising Australia wide), that it was honestly sharing of that information. Then sharing what I had learned about blogging and online business!
What’s the biggest change in your life since you started blogging? I have quit my FT soul-sucking, heart-destroying job and my blog fully supports me (read: pays me a full time income) + pays my mortgage and soon to retire my boyfriend and completely support my family. That is pretty cool.
- Short term: Retiring my boyfriend from his job in April. Purchasing 2nd house (a farm) by July 2017. Creating the lifestyle from the blog. Blogging number goals – $80k gross income in next 12 months, over 300,000 page views on p/m on Angel Foods website and over 30,000 email subscribers by December this year.
- Long term: Buying 2 more houses in the next 5 years. Earning $200k p/y from blogs within 5 years.
If you could start blogging all over again, what would you do differently? Not a thing. I don’t believe in regret or reliving the past. I have learned from all my mistakes and am a better blogger and entrepreneur because of them.
How do you motivate yourself to continue blogging? My goals keep me moving forward and provide inspiration and motivation to me. I am a pretty self-motivated person. I would say continuous writing and evaulation goals and plans and making steps towards achieving them.
What attributes has helped you become successful blogger? Failing and making mistakes many times! It isn’t the failing that is the attribute, but rather than I choose to learn from that experience and improve for next time. ”There is no such thing as failure, just 1 step closer to success.”
My motto is to help 1 person per day. If that is my aim every single day, that has to be a good thing, right? It isn’t about ‘selling’ but how I can help. Success comes from building a relationship and the ‘know like trust’ factor. As soon as people realise it is about people selling to people, the success comes.
How have you tried to increase your blog traffic? Which way has been the most successful?
SEO is one of my biggest sources of traffic. My SEO strategy includes
- Have Google Analytics set up. It is a free tool that tracks website traffic.
- Know who your target market is (who you are selling to).
- Have a WordPress (.org) website.
- Keyword research.
- Title & description.
- High quality content.
- Follow the blog template.
- Images – optimize for SEO.
- SEO plugin – fill in every time!
Bonus #1 – Have a blog roll.
Bonus #2 – Have a widget area.
Bonus #3 – Republish old content to current date (when applicable).
Pinterest is my other biggest source of traffic! It has been a game changer since beginning of 2016 (before that I didn’t even know there was a thing as Pinterest strategy
. I pin and re-pin around 50 pins per day (50% my own and 50% others) and I get about 20,000 page views p/m on the Angel Foods website. (I have had severeal pins go viral and had up to 200,000 page views in a month!)
What’s your favourite social media platform and why? Pinterest because of above. I spend about 30 minutes per week on it for Angel Foods website and get a huge return on investment.
Most of your traffic comes from which social media platform? Pinterest 🙂

What’s your greatest win so far with blogging? Wow, great question. I want to say quitting my full time job and working full time for myself. That was the ultimate goal and I achieved it.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve so far with blogging? That it isn’t easy. If it was easy everyone would be doing it!
Has blogging surprised you in any way? If so, how? Sometimes I wish it was easier 😛
How often do you publish a post? Daily. Between the 2 blogs nearly daily and on the Angel Foods blog about 200 times per year.
Have you had writer’s block? If so, how did you overcome it? Nope, I always have something to say. To be fair, I usually start from journalling and something comes from there. Otherwise I pop into a Facebook group and someone has a question that I can answer. I create / write the response from that.
Do you have a blogging schedule? Daily theme? Please share! My blogging schedule is to create content daily and very first thing in the mornning. That is when I am the most productive, inspired on fire and brain juice is flowing.
Have you guest posted for someone?
Do you accept guest posts? If yes, tell us about it! Yes, for my Angel Foods blog as I don’t write the 200 posts myself! It is a non-payed contributing writing, accepting recipes, food tutorials, cake business advice type content. I share on social media to over 15k people and email out to subscribers which is currently 15k.
Have you made money from blogging? If so, how? I started with $0 months, we all start there. Nowadays I earn over $5000 per month. 35% comes from membership sites ($1 to enrol and $9 p/m), 30% my other products like one-to-one mentoring, books, courses, workshops. 20% from affiliate commissions and 15% from ad revenue.
How long had you been blogging before you made any money?
Who’s your favourite blogger before you started blogging and why? (Name and blog URL) Pat Flynn from Smart Passive Income. And my sister, Leonie Dawson. Back then in 2011 it was a completely different landscape.
Who’s your favourite blogger now and why? (Name and blog URL) I would say Rose Atwater from Rose Bakes who I have taken on board as a personal mentor and someone I want to model her blogging success.
What type of blogs are you interested in reading and why? They are mostly entrepreneurial, business of blogging, inspirational.
