Meet Erin | #TheBloggerBehindTheBlog | CoffeeHeartMind

Let’s get to know YOU:
Tell us a little bit about yourself (mini bio):
I’m a stay at home mom of two boys. Married to my high school sweetheart who will soon be joining the U.S. military. I make YouTube videos and blog about my life, reviews on new or interesting products and share my recipes.

What do you do outside of blogging (think school or work):

I used to be a pharmacy technician and realized it wasn’t for me and decided to be a stay at home mom again. I can’t stand working for other people so I plan on doing online school soon for graphic design and make that my career along with my blog and YouTube channel.

What do you like to do on your down time?
I like to cook and bake, play with make up, and spend down time with my husband and kids.

Blog niche: Lifestyle blog + Reviews

What’s the purpose of your blog?
I love sharing helpful information and I’ve loved writing reviews for a very long time. I wanted to use my blog as a way to inform people of the newest products before they buy or that weird product they’ve been curious about but haven’t bought because they’re unsure about it. I always read reviews before buying and I want to eventually be the go to person for everyone else when looking for reviews. I also share personal stories and random things that I would like to share with my readers. Some are fun and spontaneous while others are more serious and thought out posts.

Who’s your target?
My target audience is probably the weird folks like myself that don’t mind being silly and not caring what others think. The ones who dare to think outside the box and try new things. People who are wanting to read interesting reviews on interesting products and genuine lifestyle blog posts that come from the heart.

What’s the best way for your audience to contact you? My email erinnowlin3[@] or through my social media channels, especially instagram. Email is most efficient.

How would you describe your blogging style?
Silly, down to earth and honest.

When did you start blogging?
The end of December 2016

What inspired you to start blogging?
I love helping people and reviews are a great way to do that. I also love to talk and share my recipes and things like that with others. As a one income family we got into a rough place financially and I hoped to make this my job to help provide for my family.

What’s the biggest change in your life since you started blogging?
I’ve made a lot of supportive friends and gained a bit of confidence seeing that people actually like my content and want to read what I have to say. I never thought I’d actually grow an audience.

Blogging goals:

  • Short term: Grow my following and amount of content.
  • Long term: Establish a name for myself, gain relationships with my followers and get to know them, and generate income to provide for my family.

If you could start blogging all over again, what would you do differently? I would have taken more time to set up my blog before launching. I was very excited and rushed into publishing it when it wasn’t quite where I wanted it.

How do you motivate yourself to continue blogging?
Knowing that there are people reading helps me continue. I don’t have a huge following but I do have some and that’s enough for me to continue on. I don’t want to let anyone down. Plus there is always something interesting I feel like I should be sharing and my need to let people in on everything keeps me writing!

What attributes has helped you become successful blogger? I don’t know how successful most would consider my blog but to me I have a good thing going. I feel like honesty and realness is a big part of who I am and why people like to read from me. I don’t sugar coat things I tell me honest opinions and genuinely care about the interest of other people, even total strangers. I also make sure I am posting consistently and that helps a lot too.

How have you tried to increase your blog traffic? Which way has been the most successful? I use my social media accounts to advertise and also word of mouth. My family has been supportive in telling others about what I’m doing. The most successful way I’ve brought in traffic is honestly a mixture of all of my social media accounts. Specifically Facebook and Instagram.

What’s your favourite social media platform and why? Instagram for sure! I feel like it’s a more straight forward look into someone’s personality and who they are. It’s my biggest following and I genuinely enjoy it the most because it’s so easy to use and to reach others.

Most of your traffic comes from which social media platform? A mixture of Instagram and Facebook.

What’s your favourite blogging group on Facebook?
My new group: Grow your social media!

Do you have a freebie for your readers? If so, what is it? Do we need to subscribe to receive it? I don’t currently but I have been thinking up one for awhile. I don’t want to do something that everyone else is doing.

What’s your greatest win so far with blogging?
The feeling of doing something that could be helping others. I hope that it is!

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve so far with blogging? Be patient and not pressure myself to grow so fast.

Has blogging surprised you in any way? If so, how?
Yes! I was surprised how many bloggers are so supportive of one another. I was scared of there being competition because I’m not that way. I was so happy to find kind and helpful bloggers that are supportive in others blogging journey.

How often do you publish a post?
Once a week at least. Usually on Mondays.

Have you had writer’s block? If so, how did you overcome it? Yes! I just thought of topics that were happening in my life that could help others if I shared them.

Do you accept guest posts? If yes, tell us about it!
I haven’t yet I’m trying to figure out what type of blog posts to add from others that would fit in well.

Have you made money from blogging? If so, how?
Not yet! 😞

Who’s your favourite blogger before you started blogging and why? (Name and blog URL)
I love reading the fatguyfoodblog. They do reviews similar to what I love to do reviews on. They mostly review new junk foods and they’re really funny and honest.

Who’s your favourite blogger now and why? (Name and blog URL) I have a lot

What type of blogs are you interested in reading and why? I love reading recipes, serious articles and informative blog posts. Reviews and money saving articles also interest me. I’m not really a fan of fashion blogs too much.

Give advice to someone who wants to start blogging: Do your research! If you want to make money make sure you’re using the right website and tools to do so. Know what plugins you should be using, terms bloggers need to know, etc. Set some goals and keep track of your progress too.

Tell us one thing your readers don’t know about you:
I suffer from anxiety and depression. I struggle with severe social anxiety the most so making a blog and YouTube channel was terrifying for me. But hey, here I am now doing an interview about my blog for a super awesome lady blogger friend of mine. If you have these struggles too don’t let them hold you back!

Anything else you’d like to share with us? Go for it!!!
